textile art by Gwen Hedley

'Shoe Box' [66 x 57 cms] Gwen Hedley

Gwen has an abiding passion for the vast shingles of Dungeness, where all manner of discarded materials are processed by tidal movements - surfaces smoothed, brashness subdued, hard edges softened and structures unravelled. This work portrays the tidal deconstruction of abandoned shoes. This collection is stitched into folds of cloth and the painted border reflects both shoe seaming and the shorescape's muted palette.
